Highlights

  • Single GLC 400 4MATIC variant, assembled at Chakan, Pune
  • 489 PS, 800 Nm and a claimed 711 km WLTP range from a 94 kWh battery
  • Deliveries from mid-November 2026; Mercedes says the order book is full till March 2027

Mercedes-Benz India has launched the GLC Electric at Rs 78.50 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory). It is the first Mercedes assembled in India on the brand’s dedicated 800V EV platform, and it comes in one fully loaded form: the GLC 400 4MATIC with AMG Line styling. Mercedes says no global model has gone from launch to local assembly in India faster. Here is all you need to know about it.

Price & Variants

Introductory price, all-India.

  • Only one variant is offered, on the standard 2,972 mm wheelbase. The long-wheelbase version sold in China does not come to India.
  • Buyers can take a complimentary AC wallbox or choose MB.CHARGE public charging credits instead.
  • Mercedes says the car is sold out till March 2027, and has asked its global team for more assembly kits to shorten the wait.

How it compares on-road with the petrol and diesel GLC (approximate, varies by city)

GLC ElectricGLC 300GLC 220d
Registration chargesRs 4,600Rs 7.75 lakhRs 10.44 lakh
On-road priceRs 82.52 lakhRs 88.78 lakhRs 91.47 lakh

The EV is Rs 6.26 lakh cheaper on-road than the GLC 300 and Rs 8.95 lakh cheaper than the GLC 220d. Almost all of the gap comes from registration charges, since the EV’s ex-showroom price is higher.

Design

  • Front: An upright illuminated grille with 942 light points surrounds the star, finished in black chrome on the AMG Line car. Digital LED headlamps carry star-shaped elements.
  • Side: The profile is more conventional than the face suggests: a sloping roofline, flush pop-out door handles, 20-inch AMG Line wheels in a staggered fit and aluminium running boards.
  • Rear: A full-width gloss black band joins the tail-lamps, which repeat the star motif.
  • Size: The car measures about 4.85 metres long, 1,913 mm wide, with a 2,972 mm wheelbase, and ground clearance is 148 mm.

Colour Options

Six colours are on offer: Obsidian Black Metallic, Sheer Blue Metallic, Lavender Silver Metallic, MANUFAKTUR Opalite White Bright, MANUFAKTUR Alpine Grey Solid and MANUFAKTUR Patagonia Red Metallic. The three upholstery choices (Artico Black, Artico Beech Brown with Black, Artico Ivory Beige with Black) are tied to the paint you pick.

Our Pick: Sheer Blue Metallic. It stands out among the white and black luxury SUVs on the road without being loud.

Interior

  • The cabin is built around the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, which runs Mercedes’ new MB.OS and a fourth-generation MBUX interface.
  • The SKY CONTROL panoramic roof carries illuminated stars that can match the ambient lighting.
  • It is a five-seater, with a 570-litre boot (1,740 litres with the seats folded) and a 128-litre frunk.
  • Mercedes highlights recycled and lower-carbon materials in the cabin.

Features & Safety

Key features

  • 15-speaker, 670W Burmester 3D sound system with Dolby Atmos
  • Ventilated and powered front seats, dual wireless charging
  • Over-the-air updates, an AI assistant and adaptive headlamps
  • Comfort suspension with selective damping

Safety

  • Level 2 ADAS using eight cameras, five radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors
  • 9 airbags, 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake, blind-spot detection, TPMS, remote parking assist and an active bonnet
  • The EV has not been crash-tested. The petrol GLC’s 5-star Global NCAP rating belongs to that car and does not carry over.

Reported feature misses: reports say rear-wheel steering and adaptive air suspension are not offered on the India-spec car. Mercedes has not published a full equipment list, so check with the dealer.

The car uses an 800V architecture and supports DC fast charging at up to 330 kW. Mercedes claims 10 to 80 per cent in about 22 minutes, and up to 303 km added in 10 minutes in optimal conditions. Real-world range and charging times will depend on speed, temperature, AC use and the charger.

Rivals

The GLC Electric has no direct rival yet. The BMW iX3 long wheelbase, due in India in 2027, is the closest, with the Audi Q6 e-tron also in the frame. The Volvo EX90 sits a step above, at Rs 1.26 crore. The Tesla Model Y, Kia EV6 and BMW iX1 are cheaper alternatives for those who do not need the three-pointed star.

Our Take

The GLC Electric is a strong first local EV for Mercedes: more than 480 bhp-class performance, a long claimed range, fast charging and a cabin that feels a class above its price. The caveats are the single fully loaded variant, the missing equipment reported on the India-spec car, and the wait, since the order book is already full till March 2027. If you want a luxury EV and can wait for delivery, take a test drive before the BMW iX3 arrives.
