Tata Motors has pulled the wraps off the Aeris, a sub-four-metre sedan that steps in to replace the long-serving Tigor in the brand’s lineup. Priced from Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom), the new model arrives with a reworked design, a refreshed cabin and an expanded features list, while carrying over familiar powertrain choices. Notably, the Aeris will be sold exclusively to individual buyers, with the outgoing Xpres continuing to serve fleet customers.
Price and Variants –
The Aeris is offered across five trims — Smart, Pure, Pure+, Creative and Accomplished — with both pure-petrol and factory-fitted petrol-CNG options, each available with a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. For example, prices span Rs 5.29 lakh to Rs 9 lakh for Accomplished AMT CNG. That entry price undercuts the outgoing Tigor by roughly Rs 40,000. Additionally, bookings are already open at Tata dealerships and online, with customer deliveries set to begin in October.
Design –
Up front, the Aeris gets a slimmer gloss-black grille, LED headlamps with a distinct DRL signature, and a bumper redesigned to house LED fog lamps. Furthermore, the profile mirrors the Tigor’s notchback roofline, now joined by new alloy wheels, cladding, antenna, and Aeris badging. At the rear, buyers get a connected LED tail-lamp treatment, a small boot-lid spoiler and a restyled bumper. The car is offered in six shades — Dandeli Drizzle, Daytona Grey, Nitro Crimson, Dune Glow, Pure Grey and Pristine White — each also available as a dual-tone option with a black roof.
Interior and Features –
The cabin borrows heavily from the recently updated Tiago but wears a lighter, airier colour scheme. Highlights include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, a two-spoke steering wheel, and a rotary drive selector on automatic variants that frees up console space. Other conveniences include dual wireless phone charging, automatic climate control, cruise control, ventilated front seats, a six-speaker sound system, rear AC vents and paddle shifters on AMT versions. Tata quotes a boot capacity of 419 litres.
On safety, six airbags are standard across the range, alongside rear parking sensors and ISOFIX child-seat mounts. Higher trims add an integrated dashcam, a 360-degree camera with blind-spot monitoring, tyre pressure monitoring, hill-hold assist, rain-sensing wipers, electronic stability control and rollover mitigation.
Powertrain –
Mechanically, the Aeris continues with the Tigor’s 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing around 85bhp and 113Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual or AMT. A dual-cylinder factory-fitted CNG kit is also available, dropping output to roughly 75bhp and 97Nm while retaining both gearbox choices — including AMT with paddle shifters, a rare combination in this segment.
Rivals –
The Tata Aeris will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura in India’s crowded sub-four-metre sedan segment, aiming to win over value-conscious first-time buyers with its styling, equipment list and CNG-AMT flexibility.
