A camouflaged test mule hints at a new grille with an ADAS radar, rear disc brakes and a likely engine change.
Maruti Suzuki has started road-testing the Fronx facelift, and the first spy shots show a heavily camouflaged prototype. Everything below comes from what the test mule shows, plus what the recently updated Baleno suggests. Maruti has not confirmed any of it. Launch timing is also unannounced, though the car is expected in the coming months.
Highlights
- New grille with what appears to be a central ADAS radar housing
- Rear disc brakes spotted, replacing the current rear drums
- The Baleno’s new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol is likely to replace the four-cylinder
Front: New Grille, ADAS Radar, Parking Sensors
The camouflage hides most of the front end, but the grille pattern looks revised. A box in the centre appears to house a radar sensor for an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). The Baleno facelift took a similar approach. If it is ADAS, features such as forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning are likely. Some reports also expect adaptive cruise control and high-beam assist.
The split headlamp setup, with LED DRLs and the main LED headlamps, looks unchanged. Front parking sensors are visible, which the current Fronx does not offer. The front bumper is expected to change, but the camouflage makes it hard to judge.
Profile and Rear: Rear Disc Brakes Stand Out

The side profile looks familiar, including the dual-tone alloy wheels. The notable detail is the disc brakes on the rear wheels. The current Fronx has front discs and rear drums across the range, so this would be a real hardware upgrade.
The rear is covered up, so little can be confirmed. Slightly revised tail-lamps and a new rear bumper are possible. The roofline, spoiler and overall proportions look unchanged.
Interior: Expect Baleno-Style Upgrades
The cabin is not visible in the spy shots, so these are expectations based on the Baleno facelift:
- Ventilated front seats with leatherette upholstery
- A Clarion-branded sound system
- Level 2 ADAS and TPMS
- Wireless charging and updated upholstery
- Largely unchanged dashboard layout
Features the current Fronx already offers, such as the 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a head-up display and a 360-degree camera, are expected to carry over.
Engine: New 1.2-Litre Three-Cylinder Likely
The biggest mechanical change expected is a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z12E petrol engine. It would replace the existing 1.2-litre four-cylinder, as it did on the Baleno. Maruti introduced the Z-series engine in the 2024 Swift and Dzire, then moved the Baleno facelift to it in September 2026. Toyota’s updated Glanza followed in October.
| 1.2L Z12E NA Petrol (expected) | 1.0L Boosterjet Turbo-petrol | |
|---|---|---|
| Power | 83PS | 100PS |
| Torque | 112Nm | 148Nm |
| Transmission | 5-speed MT / 5-speed AMT | 5-speed MT / 6-speed AT |
MT – Manual Transmission, AMT – Automated Manual Transmission, AT – Automatic Transmission (torque converter)
The new engine would make about 7PS less than the outgoing four-cylinder. It is expected to be more fuel-efficient, as on the Baleno. A CNG version of around 70PS is also expected, possibly with an AMT option for the first time. The 1.0-litre Boosterjet is expected to continue unchanged.
Strong hybrid: Suzuki has confirmed it is developing a series hybrid system. In it, the petrol engine acts as a generator and the electric motor drives the wheels. Some reports link it to the Fronx and mention a figure of around 35kmpl. That figure is a rumour, and Maruti has not announced a hybrid Fronx.
Expected Price and Rivals
The current Fronx costs Rs 6.90 lakh to Rs 12.03 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelift’s price is yet to be announced. Extra equipment such as ADAS, rear discs and ventilated seats could push prices up on selected variants. One estimate puts the range at roughly Rs 7 lakh to Rs 13 lakh.
The Fronx competes with the Toyota Taisor, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and Citroen C3. Some reports also include the Tata Nexon and Hyundai Venue.
Why It Matters
The Fronx is one of Maruti’s strongest products. It ranked sixth among India’s best-selling cars between April and September 2026, with 1,10,135 units, up 43.40 per cent year-on-year. It also topped the export charts with 46,147 units in the same period. A mid-cycle update would keep it competitive as rivals add features, and it is the first major refresh since the April 2023 launch. The Baleno facelift reportedly sold 25,392 units in its first month, which shows how well updates are working for NEXA.
What We Don’t Know Yet
- Official launch date and variant lineup
- Whether ADAS will be Level 1 or Level 2, and on which trims
- Final design of the bumpers and tail-lamps
- Whether a hybrid will arrive with the facelift or later
- Final pricing
Our Take
The Fronx facelift looks like a feature-led update rather than a redesign. Rear discs and ADAS would strengthen the safety package, and the Z12E engine should improve efficiency. The caveat is that some equipment is still an inference from the Baleno, and prices are likely to rise. The Toyota Taisor is expected to get the same updates later, as the Glanza followed the Baleno. The facelift could debut at the Bharat Mobility Expo in February 2027.
