Sawan 2025: This devotee of Lord Shiva had offered his eye

The month of Sawan is considered very auspicious to get the blessings of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. By worshiping Mahadev in Sawan, the devotee gets auspicious results. Along with this, all the troubles in life are removed.

Although in ancient times, Mahadev had many devotees, including Lankapati Ravana, but do you know that apart from Ravana, there was a big Shiva devotee, who even offered his eye to Shiva. Kannappa (kannappa katha) belonged to the hunter community. His real name was Thinnan. In such a situation, let us know about this Shiva devotee in detail.

Kannappa is one of the great devotees of Lord Shiva. He belonged to a hunter community. His story is associated with the Srikalahasti temple. He worshipped Mahadev during his life. He was famous for his devotion to Shiva.

According to religious belief, Kannappa belonged to the hunter community. Once Kannappa reached Dorna Srikalahasti for hunting. During this time, he found a Shivling, which he used to worship. He did not know how to worship according to the rituals. He used to offer forest flowers to the Shivling without washing them and after hunting, he used to offer raw meat to the Shivling.

When the priest once saw the Shivling impure, he got angry. He thought that some animal was responsible for making the Shivling impure. But seeing the Shivling impure every day, he felt that this was the work of a human being. In such a situation, the priest started getting upset, then Mahadev gave a message that the work of making the Shivling impure was done by my devotee. That devotee does not know how to worship, but I am pleased with his devotion.

One day Kannappa went to worship the Shivling, he saw that the Shivling was bleeding. Seeing this, he thought that the eye was injured. In such a situation, he applied herbs to stop the bleeding. Even after this, the blood did not stop. After this, Kannappa took out one of his eyes and offered it to the Shivling. Even after this the blood did not stop, after which he decided to take out his other eye. But in the meantime, Lord Shiva stopped him.
